"Music should speak to the heart .. and not to the head," Arthur Sullivan once said, creating a diverse oeuvre that inspired his followers, Edward Elgar and Ralph Vaughan Williams. The Golden Legend is a cantata by Arthur Sullivan with libretto by Joseph Bennett, based on the 1851 poem of the same name by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
